Construction Begins!

Scheduled for Grand opening in October of 2008, construction is underway for the next wave of Kohl’s Department Stores. Ambrose Engineering, Inc. provided structural consulting services for 42 new stores with sites stretching from California to Florida. In addition to the typical consultant services, these stores will all pursue LEED certification through the U.S. Green Building Council Portfolio Program. Ambrose Engineering, Inc. provided upfront prototype modifications to ensure structural component fabrication and construction would meet the LEED criteria for recyclable content. As of September 2006, there were only 25 LEED-certified retail locations nationwide; with the Kohl’s program alone, that number will quadruple over the next twelve months. Kohl’s Department Stores was one of 17 organizations nationwide recognized in October of last year by the EPA with a Green Power Leadership Award.
